We've done snow forts with the young men for the past few years
They dig the forts in the snow pile at the church and then sleep in them while the leaders sleep in the gym and have the church open if any of them get too cold or uncomfortable.
We've never had anyone come inside.
I can't imagine any of those nights was any warmer than 5-10 degrees and they always seem to like it and ask to do it again.

If you're prepared, and they are, it's fine. I've camped at even colder. The preparation is key, though
