When I was a BYU fan I went to the rivalry game at rice eccles and did not have any problems. I thought all the dead/tortured Kosmo dolls were hilarious (I was 8 or 9 years old).
and your comment doesn't address my question. I'd be willing to bet BYU fans would feel a lot better about the rivalry if Utah's football program was a dumpster fire. It's the same reason other Big12 fans don't want Utah to join up, because Utah would immediately be a top 3 team in the Big12.
YES, I'm the first to admit that many Utah fans have some growing up to do. I didn't grow up a Utah fan, so I don't know what it's like cheering for a team that was dominated by their rivals for 20 years, but I can imagine many Ute fans are helping BYU fans feel how they felt during those down times.
My experience at any sporting event of any kind is that if you don't talk trash, you don't get talked trash to. Sure, there might be comments made as you pass by, or stupid things said by the occasional drunk guy, but if you just ignore it you'll almost always come out ahead.
