Taxation is complex and will never be perfect, because it will always involve taking money from some people for something they didn't want to pay for. The perfect scheme would be to have everyone pay for the services they want to fund/make use of and nothing else; unfortunately, that is essentially impossible where government is concerned.
This is one of the main reasons that I think the main step in my ideal taxation scheme is to vastly scale back government action, and to have what government action remains be as localized as possible. Having done that, we should be able to have taxes be a smaller bite, so the unfairness is less pronounced. Then I do favor moving away from income taxes to sales/VAT- and yes, possibly even still property.
