Just watched a WW2 documentary. 49 US Soldiers were convicted of rape in France
after D-day. 29 were hung by personal order of Dwight Eisenhower, 25 of them African American, despite being only about 3% of the invading force. The actual rapes officially alleged were about 5,000 and about 10 times that were likely not brought forward. Eisenhower did the hangings in public as a deterrent or it would have been worse.

A brothel, the "Blue and Gray Corral", was set up near the village of St. Renan in September 1944 by Major General Charles H. Gerhardt, commander of the 29th Infantry Division. The goal was to give servicemen an outlet so they would be less likely to rape.

It’s interesting to have been educated in American public high schools that the Japanese raped Chinese and Korean female civilians, and the Russians and Germans raped each other’s women, but the curriculum excluded our own military’s obviously much less pervasive issues.
