The Morrocan Goumiers helped overcome the impregnable Gustav Line so the Allies could advance to the (last) stronghold, the Hitler line. After the win they felt entitled to the rape of women, children, and men, which they did in the tens of thousands, some credible estimates by the Italian government in the hundreds of thousands.
The terror they committed is known as Marocchinate - term applied to the mass rape and killings committed during World War II after the Battle of Monte Cassino in Italy. These were committed mainly by the Moroccan Goumiers, colonial troops of the French Expeditionary Corps (FEC)
