Gas tax and registration pay for our roads. There is enough demand that it
makes more economic sense, as it can be largely subsidized by the end users instead of the general fund. Also, highways allow for transportation of freight which drives the economy. So there are massive secondary tax benefits.
Ultimately, government infrastructure should provide a benefit that makes economic sense. Public transit just doesn’t outside of dense metros.
