Even before that, the MWC didn't invite Boise St., Fresno, and Houston,
as it should have. The MWC would have been a *BCS* conference, with an autobid for the last 2 seasons before the CFP. THAT would have saved the MWC and likely kept BYU in the fold.
Then, when Utah and TCU left, the MWC could have easily back-filled with SMU and perhaps Nevada. No abominable adds like SJSU and Utah St. The Big East would have completely fallen apart and the AAC would not be in existence - simply the old CUSA, minus Houston and SMU, plus Uconn, USF, and Cincy.
MOUNTAIN: Air Force, CSU, New Mexico, Wyoming, Houston, SMU
WEST: BYU, Boise St., SDSU, Fresno, UNLV, Nevada
Perhaps add Navy to the Mountain and Hawaii to the West.
But those moves were not made and the MWC made the unchangeable error of adding SJSU and Utah St. Now, BYU will never go back.
