of that conference, when one left, the other was sure to go as well...which is EXACTLY what any other of those teams would've done had they had the opportunity to do (see TCU).
What the teams in the MWC apparently don't remember so well was the amount of eyeballs and subsequent revenue that BYU and Utah brought to the conference. A magical, mystical phenomenon always occurred in every MWC/WAC stadium when BYU rolled into town - butts ended up in seats. Eyeballs ended up watching on the games. People paid attention to highway rest stops like Laramie.
The idea that BYU owes anyone in the WAC or MWC a single thing is ludicrous. The bottom feeders of the conference suckled at the proverbial teat longer than they should've been allowed to. Getting curb-stomped for the better part of three decades has more to do with the "BYU screwed us" mentality than anything.
