allow students to figure things out for themselves. They are used to taking what instructors tell them as gospel. It is part of the reason many of those countries have such high test scores, but it also detracts from their ability to use common sense to solve problems or think outside of the box of instructions they have been given for their jobs. It's one of the reasons why I don't stress as much about our lower test scores on standardized tests compared to the rest of the world.
With that said, I have offices in India and the Philippines, and most of the employees are hard workers.
