I've never worn a suit to a job interview ever. Gotten offered a position in

6 of the 7 last places I've interviewed. And in talking with my boss, who interviews for my company now, he's said a suit doesn't really do anything, and the other factors you mentioned are far, far more important. Software industry.

The suit rule is not hard and fast.
