Depends on if it is a well done cover letter

A cover letter got me my last job. Resumes all look the same for some positions, it is the cover letter that can set you apart by showing personality. The cover letters that just restate what was in the resume are a waste but a well written cover letter that demonstrates who you actually are personality wise can set you apart from the stack of boring resumes.
