I'm actually very informed about BYU's recruiting, but please educate me on what
you think the problems are this year with recruiting. I'm sure you won't want to mention Fred Warner, Nick Kurtz, Dayan Lake (2015), Tyler Cook, etc. I will say that by far the biggest miss this year in recruiting was to not go harder after Quinn Bailey.

I'm sure you'll tell me about how we should have gotten Tyler Luatua, Viane Talamaivao, etc., but none of those guys were ever coming here, even if BYU had offered them first. Damien Mama is not likely at all to come and it's not for lack of trying by the coaching staff (it certainly has nothing to do with making recruits "recruit BYU").

Other people will want to complain about Uriah Leiataua, which has simply been an unfortunate situation. It was a year where there were simply guys at his position who were better than he was (Nacua and Takitaki). After seeing film on Nacua and Takitaki it is pretty clear why the coaches chose those two over Leiataua. Many people will try to blame that situation on the coaches being lazy, but it has nothing to do with it, they simply thought other players were better at his position (there's also still a decent chance that now that he has an offer he could still come here).

These coaches are not perfect at recruiting, but they are getting better. They are casting a wider net (see Kurtz, Dilosa, Dale, etc.) and they are continuing to recruit harder. They have also pulled in some big time recruits this year. I have no problem admitting when there's been a mistake by BYU in recruiting (again BYU totally dropped the ball with Bailey this year and honestly with Luatua's older brother, although Weber was an atrocious recruiter). You also don't know as much about the Schwenke situation as you think you do, you should talk to Kona's uncle who was absolutely appalled at how the Schwenke's handled that situation.
