Having grown up in Southern California, I miss the family gatherings but I have
not seen what you are worried about. My kids have always had a ton of friends. In fact raising my kids here (I'm in Orem) feels like it was in Orange County back in the 70s and 80s, minus the awesome winter weather of 70° days. Kids running around with their friends, playing outside, you actually know your neighbors.

Compare that with my brothers still in California. They don't know their neighbors, their kids have few friends, they rarely go outside, and it is a lot tougher to maintain the standards expected of an LDS kid.

Yes it can be a change to be surrounded by Mormons but for the most part it is a good thing. There are some obnoxious, get into your business, kind of people but they are everywhere.

Plus I can be at LES or the Marriott Center is 7 minutes or less.
