I saw it like this. Imaging the following hypothetical and hyperbolic situation
Alabama offers 24/7 domino's charged to the AD's office.

Oregon offers limo rides to the game instead of buses.

Oklahoma State offers a "dating service" for student athletes.

Ohio State puts 45 inch HDTVs in every locker.

Duke puts all it Bball players up in a top notch dorm with chef on demand.

Yes, this is hyperbolic, but on purpose. TH says he won't match everyone in what they will offer. He may offer a few things but he isn't going to try and keep up with every perk that everyone tries to offer. Will he adjust and change things? Yes, as long as it is in keeping with the spirit of BYU. Other extravagances he will pass on. No big deal here. It think we are taking this out of context.
