I love BYU football, but we stand for so much more...
I hope we're able to have a strong football team and maintain our core values, our standards, our beliefs and yes, our liberty. If joining a conference means we compromise any of those things then I say we stay independant.

Once upon a time Yale, Harvard, and Ivy League Schools had the strongest football teams in the nation. They won championship after championship. But when D1 football decided to provide football scholarships Ivy league schools intentionally decided that they were not going to compromise their core values for football. They are first and foremost academic institultions devoted to higher education. They decided that academic scholarships for those who had not earned it on academic merit just did not fit with who they were. They stayed true to their core values. They still, to this day, do not provide athletic scholarships. Yet the world over knows who they are and what they stand for. I hope we have the same courage. Courage enough to let go of football if we must. In my heart I hope we continue with football but expect that it might be played on a different stage than those who have compromised their missions for football.
