Honestly, a pretty big part of being a fan in Salt Lake is talking with Utah fans about games, results, etc. Having common opponents, playing for the same conference championship, etc. made it all a little more interesting.

As far as fans goes, I think I am a pretty big fan of Independence. But I do think one of the down-sides is a lack of conference-mates. When BYU is ranked, it should be easy to measure our relative success. When we aren't ranked, we are kind of in this weird void. We play a game, win and say "Hey, that was great! We are better than the team we played!" But it kind of fizzles there. And the team we played (even if a great team) is probably a team on the other side of the country, with no alumni that I know.
