All of these things add up and water down enthusiasm.....
Savannah State, UNLV, Middle Tennessee State this year and for the foreseeable future there will be these types of games. BYU cannot measure themselves against anyone really because their opponents are so diffuse and varied. Boise State and Utah State are the closest thing they have for measuring sticks due to contracted games, but the remainder of the schedule is a different story.

Notre Dame can get away with it because the play Stanford, USC, Michigan State, Michigan (until next year), Purdue and other schools on a regular basis. They have created familiarity over decades. BYU doesn't have that luxury in the current landscape of college football. If anything, that opportunity is eroding away every day as the P5's move to consolidate power.

It is imperative they get into a conference soon. Not just for the fans, but for the viability of the program as a legitimate player in college football.
