Mcmahon said as much when he was on DP a few years back

I remember they had him on to talk about the concussion lawsuit. Dan Patrick asked him about BYU, and he basically said that they called him in right after his last game to kick him out, even though they knew he had been breaking rules all along. He felt like they took advantage of him.
