RE: We're 4-0 against mediocre competition
Are you a Utah fan? I am not trying to insult you if you are not, because I am newer to this board, but what is up with all of the end of the world talk for BYU and praising Utah? Utah has faced Idaho st., Fresno st, and a Michigan team that is literally being talked about as playing for their head coach's job. Fresno is not even close to the same Fresno that David Carr and Juice took to the season that they had last year, and as far as I know, Idaho St is still Idaho St., and the same team that their own fans use as ammo whenever attacking our scheduling woes. On the other hand, BYU has now played 4 teams, that are either from the big 5 conferences, and once that is a former BCS team. BYU won all 4 of these games in a pretty convincing manner, without even playing close to their best football. To say that they were exposed, is to be pretty ignorant about the reality that BYU is still trying to figure out what their defensive identity is after losing Van Noy, Manumaleauna, Hadley, Sorenson, Beck, Unga, and a ton of other veteran contributors on both sides of the ball. Their D is so far ahead of where i expected them to be at this point in the season, that it gives me hope as to what the rest of the season is going to look like. Craig Bills is seriously stepping in to his team captain role and leader on Defense, and I love all of the young line backers that are playing big minutes as freshman and soph, while playing with a Junior and Senior edge. Once they learn to channel that young man's energy into discipline, they are going to finish as a top 10 defense again. There were a ton of missed tackles and arm tackles yesterday, but they still took that 2nd half and dominated after playing over 75% of the game. They were tired, but still getting penalties that are typically from players playing with too much un-contained energy. Give UVA some credit, as well, they are going to finish in the top 25 this year. In fact, I would not be surprised to see Texas, and possibly Houston, finish in the top 25 as well. If you are really a BYU fan, and not one of those Utah fans that like to troll all things BYU;(please no offense if I mistook your original post) don't be so quick to give up on BYU and their coaches. I know many of them, and they are incredibly high on the young guys, and where they are going to be once this team comes together like they did last year. One other thing, Taysom Hill is far from being one dimensional, that comment was a pretty big stretch after seeing that he is averaging a lot better passing stats than last year. He has room to improve, but Taysom has a cannon on him, and will only continue to improve.
