Especially defensively. You can blame coaching till you're blue in the face, but these are almost exactly the same defensive coaches that coached the 2012 #3 defense in the country. The coaches are the same, the scheme is the same, the players are the variable. The only real difference is Bronco isn't calling the defensive plays, but no amount of play calling can make up for your players not being good enough. Zero pass rush against mediocre offensive lines is indicative of a lack of talent, and that's where the majority of the defensive problems lie. The coaches do bear the responsibility for poor recruiting, and until BYU can commit players capable of winning 1:1 battles on both the OL and DL, BYU will be a mediocre team.
