Faculty salaries at BYU are set according to the following policy:
Target salaries are:
Assistant Professors (years 1-5) - Competitive at hiring
Associate Professors (tenured) - salaries lower than average, benefits slightly higher
(Full) Professors (tenured, minimum 10 years of service, outstanding record of research and publication) - 10% below average salary, benefits slightly higher.
BYU sets these numbers by comparing salaries to those of a group of about 10 schools it deems "comparable institutions" such as UUU, USU, ASU, etc. (no Ivy League schools), not to national averages.
Exact salary information is deemed confidential and is not published.
The below average target for salaries is justified by the university as living the law of consecration.
