Before you criticize You may want to become familiar with the following. I would suggest the first link which won't cost anything and outlines the problems humanitarian aid faces, trying to help without causing harm. The other two links are two books which address the same problem. The basic theme is that churches trying to help in the third world actually cause harm.

My understanding of the current thinking is that the most effective help may be providing a means of employment (constructing a mall and the following employment as an example)
