Why do you feel obligated to cheer for him? Because he is mormon? It's sports!
He didn't play for BYU. He doesn't play for my NBA team. WHY WOULD I FOLLOW THE GUY??

If there's a cool story on him and his life that's different, but it's the same for me as a cool story on someone who is not mormon.

I honestly don't get the infatuation that people have with following mormons who never played or had anything to do with the school they're a fan of.

Actually I do get it. People think that BYU, and mormon athletes, are missionaries of a sort... or perhaps "they reppin'."
Nope. That's one of the biggest misses by people with BYU sports. They hear one or two stories of someone who got interested in the church because of this game or that game, but don't stop to think that the millions being spent on sports would be better-used going directly into the mission fund... if that's really what BYU sports was about... but, of course, it's not. There may be those who say it's a part of it... nope, it's not. Shouldn't be anyway. I, like Aaron Rodgers, don't think that God cares about football or sport. He cares about the people playing them. He cares that they're doing some exercise for their bodies. HE DOESN'T CARE ABOUT SPORTS.

Nobody outside of BYU fans cares that this guy or that guy is mormon. They really don't. They don't care that BYU does well... and oh, btw... they're mormon. Guess we should have the missionaries come over!

C'mon.

It's time for people to just stop with that nonsense. Jabari hasn't done anything for BYU. He hasn't done anything for the LDS church, IN THE ARENA OF SPORTS. What he has done is very well for himself, and I say good for him. Good for ANYBODY, not just mormons, who have done the same.

I'll get off my soapbox now. Flame on.
