Truth is, DCs were figuring him out, & he started taking matters more & more into his hands--which played more & more into THEIR hands.
The idea we woulda gone undefeated had Taysom stayed healthy last year is silly talk. I'm not so sure we weren't stronger by season's end with Stewart than we woulda been with a healthy Taysom.
And I'm saying this as a guy who was very hopeful of Taysom's apparent improvements in the Nebraska game. I certainly think he still has a possible NFL career ahead of him. But he still has a lot to prove on that front even if he can stay healthy next season--here or elsewhere.
As for the no-brainer part of going with Taysom next season--with Tanner being s 23 year old Soph next season--if he continues to climb to that point (& I think that's likely), I don't think you can ask him to do ANYTHING more than to platoon with Taysom next season. If the coaches & Taysom are indeed even up for that kind of a scenario. And for all you Taysom man-crushes out there--I'm sorry, but the suggestion that Taysom will clearly be the better QB next spring camp is very presumptuous talk in my book. Some of you sound as if there's no way Tanner's ceiling could ever eclipse Taysom's. As an athlete? Yes. As a QB? It's just silly-talk, really. It's way too early to tell, & what Tanner's doing so far is entirely unprecedented by any BYU Freshman or RM. The kid very well might be a national item once again by season's end.
