Let's stop with Taysom vs Tanner and acknowledge the real debate
The real debate here is not between Taysom and Tanner. We do these two guys a tremendous disservice by pitting them against each other.

The real debate is read option vs west coast. There are members on this board who are advocates of each.

I will come out of the closet and say that I am a read option fan. I think it's interesting and dynamic. I also think that it has swept college football like a tidal wave for a reason. Read option is much tougher to stop than any other offense. The QB has to always be accounted for. The RBs always have to be accounted for--either to run or catch. This stretches and stresses a defense and leads to mismatches and scoring. Heck, even the NFL is evolving to read option--especially in the red zone.

I know that the majority of you are advocates of the classic BYU passing offense. You want to see the ball flung down the field. I just hope you understand that BYU has NFL-caliber receivers once in a blue moon. Hard to win consistently like that any more. In addition, the game has changed. Defensive holding and pass interference don't get called the way they used to. This makes mug and grab, err, press man defense much more effective against West Coast offenses than ever before. BYU has to play with Big 10 refs at Michigan, with Big 12 refs at Texas and PAC-12 refs at UCLA. Do you really think we're going to do well with a west coast offense given those handicaps.

We had a poll on offensive styles a few weeks back. I voted that I thought that a Wisconsin/Harbaugh power run game would be the best offense for BYU's talent base. I think it would be better than either west coast or read-option based on all the pineapple express running backs that we are able to bring in to the program.

I acknowledge that my opinion on offensive systems is up for debate. So let's debate and debate and debate. But let's not drag Taysom vs Tanner in to it. That presupposed a pettiness on the part of those guys that we may have, but that I doubt they do.
