The Heaps/Nelson years were pretty rough. BYU was still feeling out independence. There were a few disastrous hires on both sides of the ball (Jaime Hill, Brandon Doman). Even Bronco's seat was getting a little hot, if I recall. Those things had a negative impact. I think the past two years have been positive. We still need to secure those big recruits that are hanging in balance (i.e. Handsome, Simi Fehoko, any of those TX WRs, etc). BYU in years past seemed like they would reel those guys in (except maybe TX recruits). Now its a dogfight.
