Agree with everything except for two things
If you have less than stellar credit, network with relatives for a win/win refinance (offer them 10% and make the payment to them) or check out upstart.com or lending club for crowd-funded consolidation loans.


Wow. I would never do that. If a family member every approached me with that proposition I would run and change the locks on the doors.

Second, I wouldn't ever stop contributions to retirement accounts. I might pull them to where I'm only meeting a 401k match etc, or if there is no match, reduce the contribution. But if you don't have enough money to put towards retirement now, you'll never have enough money. People think they can shut off that savings and catch up later and realize that later comes a lot sooner than they expected.
