The typical Canadian patient is something like this....
Life goes on no problems, a cold here, the flu there a little bump on the head or cut on the toe no problem, fixed at the doctors....
Well then there comes a day when the diagnosis of cancer is given, sometimes after long waits for diagnostic tests because shortage of technology relative to demand, or a knee replacement to increase quality of life or your 70 yr old mother falls and breaks a hip and needs a hip arthroplasty.
Or a family member needs a bone marrow transplant or gasp, and MRI
That's when the Canadians truly wish they were US citizens
