Spindash Starter
That's part of exactly why I say this in my post:
"I am not going to specifically speculate on Taysom vs Tanner (lots of factors there)"

"Tanner vs Taysom has certain dynamics that we as fans don't completely understand. But it comes down to coaches knowing their teams and players and making the best decisions. Loyalty is important, but the ways in which it is displayed isn't a hard fast rule when it comes to sports."

But I'm talking about the culture as a whole. You don't want a culture where "once a starter, always a starter", nor do you want a "pull at the first mistake, and constantly rotate culture." It's up to the coaches to know their players and system and make decisions. I've firsthand seen coaches pull players at BYU for performance, and not have the players feel like the coaches aren't loyal to them. Heck, I've been pulled before and didn't feel like the coach thought I was awful. My only point is as a culture, you can make performance based adjustments and still retain full loyalty to a player. I've seen more than one player respond to being pulled, working extra after practice with the coaches on specific issues, and then absolutely tear it up in their next start. The coaches basically said "Hey, this isn't cutting it, you need a bit of work here to be competitive against these guys" Then the assistants stayed after practice and drilled every day. They reinforced and really helped what the player needed, retaining and building confidence, and several players responded remarkably to that pattern. And when you get pulled, and it's not just a knee-jerk reaction, players already know they need work on something. It's not unexpected and often builds confidence if done correctly.

But yes, I see what you mean. You bring up multiple good points for the specific QB situation. My post is largely observations on culture as a whole, and it's tough to know the behind the scenes.

It's situational, and I'm not in the locker room with the football team, which makes it hard for me to say what's up with this year's situation. There is probably much more with this situation than I see from my perspective, but culture as a whole is what is addressed in my post. And it varies by coach - but this stuff is pretty proven overall.
