Are you sure? Starting salaries for rookie basketball players in Italy are
reportedly not much different from starting salaries for graduates of decent business schools who find jobs with large corporations. For example:

"Average overseas players can get a $65,000 contract with ease. Depending on the league that players get into in Europe, salaries can start as high as $100,000."

Also:

"In Italy, teams tend to be unreliable. A lot of people have left without receiving all of their salary. Also, not being paid on time is common. If you get hurt, you are not guaranteed that you will get all of your salary or that the team will take care of you. This depends on the team and your status on the team."
