Watching his feet, the way he progressed through reads and his inability to keep his eyes downfield, I don't think the game ever slowed down for him at the collegiate level. He still showed flashes, but it was usually when his first read was open and he could get rid of the ball quickly. Over the course of time I think this just got into his head, he lost confidence and never recovered.
