The only advantage a G5 conference has is the auto slot into the P6 bowl games. A lawsuit can accomplish the same thing. BYU needs to quit being a wimp and fight for itself.
If you want more choice in bowl games, then make deals with bowl games that one bowl gets BYU if they are in the top 25, the other gets us if we are not. Or, make a bowl deal with the AAC and the remaining independents. The point is to be agressive in working with people - something BYU should have done back in the 80s and 90s instead of passively trying to build the WAC.
Independence will be better in the coming years. Liberty is in a similar situation, and will be a well-supported rival that will make for fun late-November games. BYU-Idaho will have sports teams again when the current church leadership passes on, and will likely be independent as well. Boise may well choose independence after their sweetheart deal with the MWC expires. Texas may be indpenent if the Big 12 implodes. By doing what we are doing, we make being independent more viable for a host of teams.
