AAC Commissioner Mike Aresco has been pushing his "P6" initiative pretty hard.

A couple of backing points for his argument:

- Central Florida’s upset of Baylor in the 2014 Fiesta Bowl and Houston’s defeat of Florida State in the 2015 Peach Bowl.

- AAC schools have notched 19 victories over Power Five opponents during the 2015 and 2016 seasons. (This stat was very surprising to me. I wonder what the MWC or Conf USA Totals are...)

- Houston knocked off ranked OK AND Lville while they were top 5.

Right now the AAC has 3 teams ranked in the top 25. USF, UCF and Memphis. Navy was ranked until their recent loss and is still receiving votes. Houston has been very good over the past decade. They have been the face of the league in football at times, and even in a down year for Houston, the league has enough talent to have 3 teams ranked 8 weeks into the season. 

I am NOT trying to start a debate of whether BYU should join the AAC. That has been argued to death on the board lately. 

I do however want to throw out two questions:

1. Could this push for P6 benefit BYU? If this thing got any real movement, would it benefit BYU? I think due to politcal things BYU has a very, very low chance of ever joining the Pac12. I think because of Texas politics BYU has a very low chance of joining the Big12. But joining the AAC seems very reasonable. 
2. If BYU were to join the American, would it help their cause? I know BYU sucks hard this year, but BYU is traditionally a strong program in football and basketball. They are above average in TV ratings usually. They have a large fanbase, they have large football and bball stadiums and show well in attendance on a national scale. They have their own TV network. Could the value of adding BYU help the push for P6?
