Actually, "Power 5" refers to the 5 conferences with automatic bids to the NY6,
not the 5 conferences with the most TV revenue (though they also have that).

This may seem like semantics but it's not for a couple reasons. First and foremost, if BYU, Boise, SDSU and CSU/Air Force were to join the AAC, the AAC would start regularly (as in, 80% of the time or more) getting the G5 autobid to the NY6. It would be by far the premier G5 conference and the committee would reward it as such by allowing the AAC champion 2-3 losses before giving the autobid to the undefeated champion of one of the other G5 leagues.

Once you start getting the G5 autobid every year you have for all intents and purposes turned yourself into a "P6" league. Not from a revenue perspective obviously but from a public perception standpoint, and in regards to access.

The other reason why it's important to note that P5 leagues aren't designated such because of money is that there is a huge disparity in revenue even among P5 conferences. The difference between what a B10 school makes and what an ACC or PAC12 school makes from TV revenue is almost as large as the difference between an ACC school and the AAC/MWC. And that gap is getting wider, not smaller.
