BYU has for as long as I know let kids take care of things through their ecclesiastical leader w/o facing the wrath of the HC office. I have a very close friend who "went all the way" with his GF while at BYU. He was contrite, he took care of it the right way, did everything he was asked to do, and he was allowed to stay in school all the while. Was he an athlete getting "special treatment"? No.
