to have standards. If they're really committed to the Church and its mission, then they would insist that BYU have standards that reflected the larger values of the Church.
I think the issue is that sometimes, part of them loves sports more than they love the Church, and they want so badly to hurt BYU sports that they're willing to hurt the larger institution to tear down their rival.
The gotcha game they play where BYU is either judgmental and holier-than-thou if they don't let Harvey back into school or hypocritical if Harvey returns is instructive, IMO. They've set up a scenario where BYU can do no right, and they'll pile on in very public forums like sports radio, Internet articles, Cougarboard etc to criticize and judge and generally cast the Church's flagship university - and most public institution - in a negative light.
