Some may hate both the school and sports
and I don't quite understand that. My friend, a Wazzu alum, hated BYU because he thought it took all of the good LDS kids away from the local schools and weakened the Church at those schools. He thought the Church would be better served if the good LDS kids went to school elsewhere and strengthened the institutes there.
As for me, I don't hate BYU and I don't even hate the sports teams. I have known a good number of irritating BYU fans and when BYU loses, I usually enjoy seeing them in misery. However, I respect the people at BYU and have thought it has a good group of people over there (for the most part). If my kids want to go to BYU, I would be more than happy to support them in going there.
