I don't think they have to be BYU fans, in fact,
it's fun that many aren't. My parents are great examples of Utes who will cheer vehemently against BYU when it plays Utah, but otherwise understands that no favors are done to the church they believe in if BYU is mediocre or just downright bad. My dad cheers for BYU 11 games a year.
