They were often hit or miss and his personnel decisions were among the most criticized as a HC. I don't think he had much of a network and mostly promoted GA's as what seemed like the result.

But he wasn't bad at the top... It was filling out recruiting classes with more quality. He'd get his guys at the top and the "bottom" 2/3 would hurt BYU's depth. It was rounding out classes that killed BYU over the years. You always have transfers and injuries and things that happen, and the depth behind those guys hardly resulted in dudes who really even belonged as starters, let alone play at a semi high level.

Depth is where we'll see the biggest difference with Sitake. It will improve at the top as well, but even Bronco got guys at the top over the years. We just need to see the rest be quality guys. And part of that "quality" will include high quality potential though raw guys. Bronco preferred football sound athletes. The Utah model has been to get the best athletes and develop them as football players.
