To me, the biggest difference between Bronco and Kalani is the intangibles
Bronco came off as closed and mysterious. He made public comments that turned people (i.e. fans) off - wearing his tender, easily offended/wounded heart on his sleeve. Kalani is the very opposite. Even Bronco players around for Kalani's arrival noted of how different things felt in the football offices. Where they avoided Bronco's office before, and didn't want to run into him in the hallway - Kalani is inviting and welcoming. And, his staff is very much the same way.
That is a huge difference.

I've met them both personally. My initial impression of Bronco was great; however, the more I heard from him at firesides drone on about how difficult his life is with fans booing him for punting in the fourth quarter at the 2005 BC game, calling fans "uneducated" or "Pharisees", etc., for questioning game decisions, and just oozing with resentment when he would speak at firesides in later years (i.e. Bronco and Holly both suggesting that their lives as leaders of the program suck because of fans who won't leave them alone, even at church, or Bronco getting up in KC before the BYU/MO game to remind the thousands present live and via broadcast that "in the grand scheme of things" a loss to MO is no big deal - followed by, of course, a loss with uninspired play). When we met Kalani at the LV Fan Fest recently, the guy is like a loving, welcoming brother. He took a personal interest in every one in our family, asking questions, shaking hands, putting his arms around us, patiently smiling for photos, joking with us. It was a completely different kind of experience. I also saw Kalani interact with what appeared to be a local recruit brought to him by Coach Steve Clark. He treated that kid like family - the same as he treated us. Once introduced, Kalani's focus was 100% on the recruit. There was kindness, interest and even love just oozing from him.

To me, that's the biggest difference. I'm not questioning or challenging Bronco's X's and O's with Kalani. I'm simply pointing out that Bronco's culture was way different. And the most important thing in coaching a winning program is getting the best possible players. Bronco couldn't do that nearly as well as Kalani - and I believe that will continue. (Perhaps Bronco will recruit better at VA where he can be more relaxed and not feel he has to play the dual role of mission president. Kalani let us all know he doesn't share that perspective when he went off on the sidelines after Nacua was kicked out of the Utah game after video review.)
