My kids have friends whose parents are lesbians who started a popcorn company they sold for hundreds of millions of dollars. They have other friends who inherited billions of dollars. They also have friends whose father is the GM of the Cubs. And another friend who is a white dude in his early 40s who made a couple hundred million at a hedge fund.
I don't compare myself at all to the first three, but the last one really chaps my cheeks because I am also a white dude in his early 40s who works at a hedge fund.
Basically what I'm saying is we compare ourselves most naturally to people similar to us (for instance family members), and Utah is one of the most demographically homogenous places in the country.
