As others have said, comparison is big in Utah. Partly because Utahns know their
neighbors much more intricately than other places. Going to church together weekly for hours, weeknights, many other times on weekends... Ministering... The kids are doing the same. My wife and I have lived many places around the US and internationally. Nowhere does it come close to how well people know and are as actively involved in the lives of neighbors as you are in Utah. Makes it very easy, even natural to compare lives and activities. I guess it depends on how your neighbors and family handle it. We have had many friends and neighbors over the years that are quite rich, but you would never know it by the way they present themselves. Some flaunted it.

We have often asked our kids about their favorite vacations. Universally, the answer revolves around times we spent time doing fun things together. It doesn't matter where we were. It was having fun together. Our kids have spent most of their lives living in Utah, but went to Disneyland, California Disney, Disney World, Disney Animal Kingdom, Tokyo Disney before going to Lagoon locally. Disney never comes up on the list of favorite vacations, although they loved those vacations. A trip to northern California where we spent time seeing the redwoods, spelunking, hiking, visited an old town remade to be like visiting a western movie set and a day in SF is a frequent choice for favorite vacation. Our oldest was a missionary for that vacation and is still bitter she missed it. It was fun, because we were together. Most of the time on that vacation we were in places with little to no crowd. Not a destination vacation.
