I would just tell my kids that we aren't rich like them. Same for everything
else my kids complained about. They complained the most about chores and how none of their friends had to do them. (kids always speak in absolutes which are never true). My kids used to think we were poor because their mom would buy large packages at costco (e.g., grated cheese) and separate them into smaller bags in the freezer and my kids thought that was a sign of poverty. LOL. They also thought because we didn't have a two story, we were poor...

Compare complaints about chores to when my daughter went on her mission and wrote a very long letter of gratitude for me teaching her how to mow lawns. Kinda funny when you think about it.

Keep plugging along dad, but you need to make better choices about the team you follow. That could scar your kids for life. Just cruel.
