My bet is that the anti-airbnb movement is facilitated/funded by the hotel lobby. The hotels stand to benefit the most.

Probably. It's positive for most residents too though.

A lack of Airbnb's will encourage more 2nd home purchases. It hurts residents.

May 5, 7:39pm
No it will decrease 2nd home purchases and decrease costs. It will hurt resident

That sucks for the Airbnb owners, but I think I feel worse for the residents.

People will buy 2nd homes instead of short term renting.

There will be some but there will much less AirBnb owners. Demand for buying

May 5, 7:58pm
If vacation rental is rented by 100 groups in a year. It only takes 1 to buy.

AirBnBs on average compete against hotels and take housing supply away from full

Show me data that accounts for 2nd home purchases. I have not found it.

Think of the inverse. Your premise makes no sense. Increasing AirBnBs would not

I am thinking about buying a home on the North Shore since there are no airbnbs.

Again there maybe rare cases where that happens but it is not the norm and makes

Airbnb are the HOV lane. You are trading it for single rider 2nd homes.

In vacation and urban areas vacation rentals are highly used.

Agree AirBnb increase tax revenue and generally use less resources like schools
johnnybyu

Yes. Airbnbs reduce housing demand and home prices.
ParentingNotForSissy
May 5, 8:24pm
So the solution to the housing shortage is increase Airbnbs? LOL

Short term rentals will be replaced by time share like groups.
ParentingNotForSissy

If you are saying time share groups will buy up or create potential neighborhood

It is only applicable to Apartment Zoned Areas..

Where are those areas? Right on the beach?

May 5, 5:07pm
here's a list of the complexes on the apartment zone list
BYUFBDAD
May 5, 5:09pm
That is fairly small and limited in my opinion.. so many Airbnbs available still
xarope8
May 5, 5:14pm
~100 complexes equals about 7000 short term rentals of about 12,000 total.
BYUFBDAD
May 5, 5:18pm
The fewer available the more those prices are going to be jacked up
kotacoug
May 5, 5:21pm
Those are some massive complexes. Not sure how locals will afford any of those anyway.

What will that mean for the Alii? Most of the Alii is owned and rented out by owner. Does that mean they won’t be
