Even mexican food in mexico isn't necessarily great
Just because a food is authentic, doesn't mean it's that great. I've had plenty of forgettable burgers in the US.
Mole Poblano (in Puebla) is among the worst foods I've ever eaten.

You mean US tex-mex. Because there is a lot of variability in Mexican cooking and restaurants.

In the US I think you're right. I do prefer Ameri/Cali/Tex ified versions to "authentic" here. Real stuff in Mexico city
