Is that different than Italian places that all some shape of pasta,maybe chicken
and then breadsticks. And of course pizza
Or Chinese that has rice or noodles, with either chicken beef or pork of some kind of seasoning.
Or american hamburger joint that you is either chicken or beef on the bun.
Mexican seems to be on par with all of them imo

San Diego/Cali mex is great but it's not true Mexican. Neither is Tex-Mex. Luckily I love all three types

In the US I think you're right. I do prefer Ameri/Cali/Tex ified versions to "authentic" here. Real stuff in Mexico city
