...are you assuming that the only way a QB can be a playmaker is if he's scrambling around in the back field like a chicken with his head cut-off trying to avoid a sack? A QB doesn't have to run around to be a playmaker, he can be a playmaker by simply reading the Defense, picking up the pressure early and finding the open receiver quickly before the secondary has time to close in. This allows the WR time to make a move and gain extra yards after the catch, maybe break it big.
Go back and watch the Boise St game and see how quickly Baylor gets rid of the ball, snap after snap. He isn't like Wilson and doesn't have to hold onto it forever waiting for someone to break open. Boise had a top 25 pass rush last year and a top 35 defense, they were good and time and again Romney beat their pressure easily by reading the D and knowing where to go with the ball and getting rid of it quickly before the pass rush could lay a hand on him. In the 2018 Boise game Zach took 7 sacks in that game (totalling 54 yds in losses). Each one of those can be drive killers. This year Romney took 2 sacks and both of those were early on, he adjusted during the game and started throwing it quicker. There's nothing wrong with being smart and managing a game well. It's called being efficient and if you haven't noticed, efficiency is all the rage in professional sports right now.
Gone are the days where the Russell Westbrook kamikaze highlight reel hero ballers are winning championships. It's no different in football.
