...because coaches are blinded by his "Mormon Manziel" hype...
...and can't see past his inability to finish drives in the end zone or effectively handle pass rushes. Opposing D's have him all figured out now. Once he gets into the shadow of the end zone they just throw a pass rush or two at him and watch him wilt, hold the ball too long and make terrible decisions.

Zach had a surprisingly good freshman year and some of that I'm sure is because there wasn't a lot of opportunity for opposing teams to scout him and prepare for him. This year opposing DC's have shown they've figured his weaknesses out and they know how to gameplan for him. He didn't show the same ability to adapt his play to what they were doing and instead always seemed to fall back on what he's done in the past. He had multiple opportunity to change his approach to counter what defenses were doing and didn't. I don't have any reason to think he'll do that this off-season when he didn't do it at all during the season so if coaches continue to treat the QB1 position as a lifetime appointment then I've no reason to expect any better QB play from him next season.

Next season I expect he'll steal a big win against one of the p5 opponents on the schedule (not named Utah) and then will tank several other games we have no business losing as the team finishes in mediocre fashion for the 3rd year in a row. I'm thinking with 6 games vs p5 opponents and several g5 games with tough teams like USU, BSU, SDSU and NIU (3 of the 4 gave ZW fits in the past) if we continue the trend of up and down performances that we could finish under .500 very easily.
