As always, let me be the voice of reason. I do not want to fire Tuiaki, and I recognize that his defenses have had
many strengths. Having said that, I often get extremely frustrated at our D, and here is why...
There is a large number of defensive coaches and fans that follow the school that is maybe best epitomized by Buddy Ryan, the greatest defensive coordinator in the history of the universe. Buddy's philosophy can be somewhat simplistically described by one of his quotes:
“No QB has completed a pass while lying flat on his back.”
So, if you are a disciple of Buddy, you feel that an effective defense NEEDS to pressure the QB on a regular basis. Whatever the strengths of Tuiaki's defenses are, pressuring the QB is not one of them. If you believe that long-term defensive success is dependent on pressuring the QB, you will likely not be extremely excited about Tuiaki.
