Sometimes CBers talk themselves into believing things that just aren’t true.
It’s the power of the echo chamber in action.

It also doesn’t help that for 90 percent or more of the people here, the two most common forms of experience they have with college football is (a) tv and (b) EA Sports.

On TV they zoom in on the line of scrimmage; you never see the defensive backfield. So viewers are automatically biased toward blitz-heavy defenses and look first at how many rushers are being sent. That’s not surprising since they rarely if ever see what goes on more than five yards down the field until the ball is thrown. Which usually means the only way they understand how to make an adjustment on defense is to change how many rush the quarterback. Most fans never see most of the work being done by BYU’s defense.
